Does dancing contribute to weight loss?

I believe that the reason I have not gotten fat is because of my dancing. Last year I use to eat like a pig, I ate everything you could possibly think of, But i danced every single day in my room, I made it a nightly ritual everynight I'd blast music & practice my dancing moves:) this including alot of jumping and fast moving, using my arms, hips and legs. would this be why I never got fat?... & could it still be the reason today, I don't dance as much but maybe my dancing fastened my metabolism? is this possible?
