Will I ever be able to allow someone to be intimate with me again?

I've lost over the years everyone who was ever meaningful or close tome. I've been living for years now alone. I miss having someone to sharethoughts and dreams and emotions with, but I've also grown used to this emotional detachment from others. Now I have the opportunity to get close with someone amazing but I fear I won't be able to make that step. Between the desire to love and the fearof loss falls a wall that keeps blocking me. Am I doomed to be alone the rest of my days?
